Surprise Dad On Father's Day

Many sons and daughters would say their dads aren’t exactly easy to please. Since dads aren’t typically thrilled by a bouquet of roses or a scented bath basket, it’s tempting to say that they’re too difficult to impress, and then cop-out and buy them some golf balls.

Well here’s the thing—your dad has enough golf balls. And ties, for that matter. He probably has enough bottles of wine and kitschy hockey memorabilia too. He deserves better! This is the man that sowed your seed, remember? OK, maybe you’d prefer not to remember that—but it’s important nonetheless.
So this Father’s Day, honour him, celebrate him, and show him you really do appreciate everything he does by giving your dad the most thoughtful gift of all: your time and energy.

Think of something personal you could do for your dad—it may be as simple as mowing the lawn or baking a favourite dessert. Cost is irrelevant; it’s the thoughtfulness of the gesture that counts. If you’re really convinced that your dad is hard to please, it probably means you haven’t thought enough about what pleases him. So between now and Father’s Day, do you and your dad a favour and spend some time getting to know him. You’ve only got one after all.

Fashion Fumbles That No Girl Could Pull Off

With our society becoming increasingly open and liberal, including our views on fashion, many trends and styles that were previously considered "unstylish" have made a big comeback. But girls, remember that there are some things you should avoid no matter what.

Jean on Jean

Some people like it, and this might be a personal opinion, but I absolutely cannot stand jean jackets worn with jeans. It's even worse when the two shades of jean don't match – and most of the time, they don't. If you're wearing jeans, wear a jacket in any other material. It's not difficult to do. And if you're going to wear that jean jacket or jean blazer, wear your khakis or something else on the bottom.

Wearing Sunglasses Indoors

There is nothing else to say. This is not trendy, it just makes you look like you can't detect whether or not it's sunny indoors. Also, I've tried it, and it really doesn't help your eyesight either! I could barely tell whether I was headed for the stairs or the doors.

Save the sunglasses for when you actually need them. This doesn't mean sunglasses don't make a fashion statement – you just have to be smart about it.

Running Shoes With Skirts

I understand this if you have to walk to work, and you've stashed a pair of pumps in your purse, but that should be your only excuse! Running shoes barely go well with jeans, let alone something as girly as a skirt.

Running shoes are for, well, exercising or outdoorsy activities - skirts serve a whole different purpose. Plus, it's usually not hard to find a pair of shoes that do match with a skirt. If comfort is your argument, there are plenty of comfortable shoes that would compliment a skirt perfectly, like pumps with no heels, or flat-soled sandals.

Blatant Cleavage

Yes, I had to mention this one. There is a line between trashy and tastefully revealing. Basically, for work, don't show cleavage if you can help it. For occasions other than work, try to moderate it a bit. Your shirt shouldn't go down so far that it looks like your breasts are going to fall out. There's nothing wrong if a bit of skin is showing, but it should be situation-appropriate.

There is no good way to measure this because every woman's breasts are different shapes and sizes, so some shirts will be more revealing on certain women than others. You be the judge of this one, and judge wisely.

Panty Lines

This is one of the worst fashion mistakes we could ever make. It's just plain unsightly. This is also very easy to fix. The easiest remedy is the thong. Many women know this already, but don't like wearing them. I'm one of those women. If I have to, I will, but the discomfort it causes is definitely not worth it most of the time. Unfortunately, for clothing such as white pants, you have two choices – wear a thong or go commando. But that's not all.

Sometimes, panty lines can be caused by two other problems – if your panties are too tight or if your bottoms are too tight. Most of us have done it before – if we can fit into that size 3 instead of size 5, it makes us feel better to get the 3. Resist that temptation! You'll feel much better in your correct size and will be more confident shaking that butt of yours without worrying about panty lines.

Are you happy at Work?

One in 12 Canadians head to work each day dissatisfied with their jobs.
Statistics Canada says 1.3 million Canadian workers were dissatisfied with their jobs in 2002
Data from the 2002 Canadian Community Health Survey show that just over six per cent of workers were "not too satisfied."
nullJob stress, shift work and lower incomes were all factors associated with job dissatisfaction.
Both men and women who worked evening or night shifts were more likely to be dissatisfied than those with regular day-time schedules.
